LifeWays, a Community Mental Health Authority responsible for managing the behavioral healthcare needs of eligible Jackson and Hillsdale County residents, is seeking candidates for the following position(s):

Full-Time Receptionist: Access Department

Responsible to provide exceptional customer service by greeting and directing individuals who visit our building, answering telephone calls and scheduling appointments for on-site psychiatrists.  Assists in filling out consumer paperwork and providing information regarding insurance, provider, and/or fee assessment information.  Maintains various databases, produces reports and sends various correspondences as needed.  Must maintain confidential records and information in accordance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act).  Candidate must have excellent verbal communication skills to provide exemplary customer service over the phone and in a lobby setting. Must be organized and have the ability to work in a faced-paced,changing environment.  Experience using office equipment, including: VOIP desktop telephone, copier, fax machine,scanner, laser printer, and computer with Microsoft Office Software 2007. Basic knowledge of community resources, helpful.  Bi-lingual, preferred. High School diploma, required.  One to three years experience in a medical/healthcare office setting, preferred.

Full-Time Peer Support

This position works within the Access/Physician’s Unit department, working closely with staff, providers and consumers to support participating adults with their recovery from mental illness, physical health issues, and substance use.  The Peer Support will work within LifeWays and the provider network to champion and support peer support and recovery initiatives. They will work to facilitate groups using the Personal Action Toward Health (PATH) model and also work one to one with peers, providing interventions.

Peers are individuals who have a unique background and skill level from their experience in using services and supports to achieve their personal goals of community membership,independence and productivity. Per the Michigan Department of Community Health this position requires that the applicant have a diagnosis of either a mental illness or a co-occurring disorder and is currently in recovery.  The Peer Support must be able to document one year recovery.  They must have reached and demonstrated a level of recovery to function as a consistent and stabilizing influence for consumers. They must also meet all eligibility requirements for certifications as a Peer Support by the Michigan Department of Community Health which includes:

  • Not having a primary diagnosis of Substance Abuse.

  • Not having used alcohol/drugs for at least one year if diagnosed with a co-occurring substance abuse/mental illness disorder.

The candidate must achieve Peer Support Certification within one (1) year of employment. 

Knowledge of, or experience working with, persons who have a mental illness, physical illness,and/or co-occurring disorder. Ability to effectively represent the agency by articulating and actively supporting the mission of LifeWays to various audiences, conveying a positive, professional image.  Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, required. Attention to detail and the ability to use discretion when dealing with confidential issues, a necessity.  High school diploma or GED required.  Must have reliable transportation.

Part-Time Information & Referral Specialist (2-1-1 Program)

Responds to inquires from the public concerning availability of services and community resources.  Provides specific and detailed information to the public on accessing public and private resources,performs customer service surveys, collects and enters information into the2-1-1 electronic record system, captures changing information on resources and eligibility requirements, performs preliminary screening for eligibility for public and community services, and tracks gaps in community services/resources.   All services are provided through telephone contact. Associate’s degree required; Bachelor's degree in Human or Social Services, preferred. Candidate must have excellent organizational skills, provide exemplary customer service over the phone by actively listening and responding to people in need or crisis.  Critical thinking and analysis skills necessary to resolve situations in a timely manner.  Requires ability to type proficiently, use of Microsoft office software, and ability to perform research.  Must have a basic knowledge of social service system, governmental bodies and Mid-Michigan geographical area. The work site will be in Jackson, MI. 30 hours/week, 3:00 PM - 9:00 PM shift.
